Some places become part of your story long before you ever say, “I do.”
For Courtney and Myles, that place was Maroon Bells.
Long before they planned their wedding day, the iconic peaks outside Aspen had already become woven into their relationship. Shortly after Myles moved to Colorado, the two hiked to Crater Lake during peak autumn. The golden aspens, crisp mountain air, and quiet beauty of the landscape left such an impression that returning every fall became one of their favorite traditions.
So when they discovered they could exchange vows at the Maroon Bells Amphitheater, the decision was effortless.
There simply wasn’t another place that felt more like home.
Surrounded by glowing aspens, an alpine lake shimmering beneath Colorado’s most photographed mountains, and the people they love most, they promised each other forever during one of the most breathtaking autumn evenings imaginable.
It was simple.
Intentional.
And absolutely perfect.
Why They Chose Maroon Bells
“The first place we went when Myles moved to Colorado was the Maroon Bells. We hiked to Crater Lake during peak fall colors, and it quickly became our yearly tradition. When we found out we could get married there, we instantly knew it was where we wanted to begin our marriage.”
That’s exactly why I love photographing elopements and intimate weddings.
They’re never just about finding a beautiful location.
They’re about finding your place.
A place that already holds memories.
A place that means something.
A place you’ll continue returning to long after your wedding day.
A Love Built on Adventure
When I asked Courtney and Myles what adventure meant to them, their answer wasn’t about climbing the tallest mountain or checking destinations off a bucket list.
Adventure was much simpler.
It was waking before sunrise to drink coffee outside.
Camping beneath the stars.
Backpacking into the wilderness with no distractions.
Working out together.
Exploring new hiking trails.
Building a home.
Dreaming about one day living in the mountains.
For them, adventure is disconnecting from everything that pulls life in a hundred different directions and reconnecting with each other.
“Adventure for us is being disconnected from our phones and the stressors of life and simply being present—enjoying nature, peace, beauty, and each other’s company.”
Their Favorite Place Together
Although the Maroon Bells will always hold a special place in their hearts, one of their favorite adventures together is hiking around Monarch Lake near Grand Lake.
They love the quiet forests, watching for moose, and spending entire days surrounded by nature.
Their ideal morning?
Fresh mountain air.
Coffee outside.
Watching the sunrise together.
Their perfect evening?
Cooking dinner, relaxing under a cozy blanket, and simply enjoying being home.
Those little rituals say everything about who they are.
Lessons They’d Tell Their Younger Selves
One of my favorite questions asks couples what they’d tell their younger selves.
Myles answered:
“You’re going to meet the woman of your dreams, marry her, and build a life together that you’ll love.”
Courtney’s answer was beautifully honest:
“Nothing is going to happen on your timeline, so be patient and stay positive. You’ll marry a country boy, experience so many firsts, and become far less fearful than you ever imagined.”
I love those answers because marriage isn’t simply about a wedding day.
It’s about becoming the people you’re meant to be together.
Why I Loved Photographing This Wedding
Courtney and Myles reminded me that the most meaningful wedding days aren’t built around elaborate timelines or extravagant details.
They’re built around intention.
Around choosing a place that already feels like home.
Around, slowing down enough to truly experience every moment.
Around the beginning of a marriage, exactly the way you hope to live it.
