Their Love Story
Some love stories begin with love at first sight.
Clarissa and Nick’s began with a less-than-perfect first impression.
“We met in 2013 after my first long day at a new job. When Nick walked through the door, I remember two things about him: first, that one of his legs was bright green, and second… I thought he was rude! I definitely didn’t think we’d become friends.”
A week later, Nick sent Clarissa a friend request along with a message apologizing for his first impression. She was excited to make new friends, so they started talking, and before long they went on their very first date.
Nick still jokes that Clarissa “forced” him into it.
As their relationship grew, so did their connection. Looking back, Nick says he knew she was the one after his best friend told him, “She’s good for you.”
Clarissa, however, had no idea.
That changed on October 16, 2016.
The two were vacationing in Las Vegas—the same city where they had taken their very first trip together. Nick convinced Clarissa to sit down with a caricature artist on the famous Las Vegas Strip. Thinking they were simply getting a fun drawing with friends, she agreed, although she admits she was getting impatient and mostly thinking about dinner.
When the artist finally finished, she smiled and asked if they were ready to see the drawing.
Clarissa answered, “Sure.”
As the picture turned around, she froze.
Instead of a simple caricature, the illustration read:
“Will You Marry Me?”
“I just sat there staring at it. I wasn’t the girl who screamed or cried. I kept asking Nick if it was real.”
When she turned around, there he was—down on one knee, holding a ring and smiling.
In that moment, she realized it wasn’t a joke.
It was real.
They were beginning the next chapter of their lives together.
Now, one year later, they were ready to say “I do” surrounded by the people they love most, celebrating not only their wedding day but the unexpected journey that brought them together.
Sometimes the best love stories begin with the worst first impressions.
