An Amelia Island Beach Adventure for Two People Who Kept Finding Their Way Back to Each Other

Sometimes the best adventures begin with a change of plans.

What started as Plan B became something even more beautiful than anyone could have imagined.

With ancient moss-covered oaks, soft coastal light, sandy beaches, and warm summer air, Amelia Island, Florida, felt almost otherworldly.

There was something about the landscape—the Spanish moss drifting from the oak trees, the salt air, the gentle coastal breeze—that reminded me of the lush, tropical beauty of Hawaii.

And honestly?

It was the dreamiest backdrop for two people whose love story was all about finding their way back to one another.

Photographing Michael and Michelle alongside my dear friend M. Colichio Photography was an experience I’ll never forget. Some collaborations become so much more than work. They become friendships, shared creativity, laughter, and memories that stay with you long after the cameras are packed away.

But this day wasn’t really about the scenery.

It was about two souls, a lifetime of almosts, and a love that refused to disappear.

Their Amelia Island Love Story

Michael and Michelle first met in 2007 during their freshman year of high school.

Like so many of the best love stories, theirs wasn’t exactly straightforward.

It was years of crossing paths, missed timing, growing up, letting go, and somehow finding their way back to each other again and again.

Their very first meeting happened at a Christmas gathering hosted by mutual friends.

Fate paired Michael and Michelle together for Secret Santa.

And Michael, already convinced that Michelle was beautiful, wanted to make an impression.

So he secretly asked around to discover exactly what she liked before choosing her gift.

Two months later, they went on their first Valentine’s Day date.

Neither of them would describe it as the perfect date.

But it was the beginning.

And sometimes, beginnings don’t have to be perfect.

They just have to happen.

Years of Finding Their Way Back

Throughout high school and college, life kept pulling Michael and Michelle together—and then pulling them apart.

The timing never seemed quite right.

But in those years, they shared some of life’s firsts.

The first “I love you.”

Prom.

Graduation.

Countless memories that became part of the foundation of their story.

Eventually, they chose to go their separate ways.

Maybe they needed time to grow.

Maybe they needed distance.

Maybe life simply wasn’t ready for their forever yet.

They trusted that if they were truly meant to be together, somehow, someday, they would find their way back to one another.

And they did.

The Navy, a Package, and a Voicemail

Years later, Michael joined the Navy.

Before leaving for boot camp, he sent Michelle a package.

Inside was something simple but meaningful—a reminder that even though life had taken them in different directions, she had never truly left his heart.

Then Michael graduated from boot camp.

And waiting for him was a voicemail from Michelle.

In that moment, something clicked.

He knew.

He was going to marry her.

When Michael returned home for Christmas, they reunited.

And this time, their story wasn’t about almost.

It was about finally.

Choosing Each Other

Their relationship still wasn’t without challenges.

They navigated the realities of long distance, time apart, and building a life together despite everything pulling them in different directions.

But this time, they knew what they wanted.

On September 28, 2018, Michael proposed.

And after all those years of crossing paths, missing timing, finding each other, and choosing each other again…

The rest is happily ever after.

An Amelia Island Adventure

There is something wonderfully fitting about photographing Michael and Michelle surrounded by the natural beauty of Amelia Island.

The moss-covered oaks.

The soft Florida light.

The ocean breeze.

The sand beneath their feet.

The quiet moments between them.

It felt less like a traditional portrait session and more like an adventure—two people wandering together, laughing together, remembering why they chose each other in the first place.

And perhaps that’s why this day felt so meaningful.

Because their story was never really about having a perfectly planned path.

It was about continuing to move forward.

Together.
